10 Amazing Futuristic Military Weapons

1. High Energy Liquid Laser Area Defense System

This new system is a futuristic version of laser anti-missile weapons. Unlike normal lasers, the HELLADS would have a cooling system so that the weapon can have continual fire.

Lasers today require a significant cooling period, therefore rapid fire is not possible. The delay would be reduced, which would make lasers more reasonable to have in battle.

This weapon is planned to be fully operation in the next 5 years, and is predicted to be placed on small aircrafts and ships.

2. XM-25 Grenade Launcher

The typical grenade launcher just got a whole lot cooler. This futuristic weapon fires 25mm bullets that detonate just as they bypass their target. With a range of 700m or roughly 8 football fields, this weapon can effectively take out enemies who are taking cover.

This eliminates the need for accurate sniping and can take out multiple enemies at once. This weapon is already a part of the US military and just shows how far long technology has come.

3. Rail Gun

This weapon is an electromagnetic gun rather than a gunpowder or chemical weapon. With the use of magnetic forces and kinetic energy, non-explosive ammunition would be ejected towards the target at high rates.

The railgun propels these shells at Mach 10, which exceeds many traditional weapons used today. Even NASA has expressed their interest in this weapon and plans to use it to fire satellites into orbit. When NASA is interested, then you know the project must be a good idea.

4. Hybrid Insects

Brought to you by the DARPA and futuristic spy movies, this new robot insect can spy on the enemy without easily being detected.

The small bug will have a computer chip placed in it and once planted, can act as surveillance to locate targets and infiltrate enemy lines. Drones are nice, however, they don’t have the versatility to be as small as these robot bugs.

5. Taser Shockwave

Taser Shockwave

Imagine a line of tasers used to take down dozens of people. As a portable weapon, this device can be set up on a stand to send out electroshock to a large area.

All it takes is a single push of a button and everyone in front of the weapon is shocked and temporarily paralyzed.

The weapon doesn’t have long distance range like most hand stun guns, but it still gets the job done. If militarized policed becomes more a part of everyday life then they may become big proponents of this weapon.

6. DREAD

DREAD weapon

This silent weapon has a taste of sci-fi military, and Hollywood mixed together. The weapon fires rotating discs at a speed of 120,000 rounds per minute. In addition, the gun has no sound, no heat, nor recoil.

Everything wanted all in one gun. The beginning generations of this have this weapon as a two handed model, and a large round shape to fire the discs. The weapon was already patented back in 2003, so it may be only a matter of time before it enters combat.

7. ADAPTIV Cloaking

Much like how Arnold Schwarzenegger coated himself in mud to hide from a Predator in his Hollywood blockbuster, this technology can hide machines from thermal imaging.

The ADAPTIV plates that are put onto tanks, and helicopters heat up or cool down to make the vehicle bleed into its surroundings. The plates can even mimic other vehicles.

So, a tank can be rendered to look like a minivan when seen through thermal optics. The cloaking can’t make vehicles entirely invisible but it is still a step in the right direction.

8. Laser Guided Bullets

Pinpoint accuracy is a thing of the past. With this technology, a bullet can be guided to its target after being fired.

This has actually already been tested by the US military with a 50 caliber round and has brought back successful results.

The bullet changes its direction while in flight to the target hundreds of feet away, and has exceptional precision.

To have a bullet be able to bend around corners is definitely a game changer for the military. Dodging a bullet is now going to be a little harder.

9. Hyper Camouflage

Over the past few hundred years, camouflage has been a primary ingredient to a military uniform. Now, scientists are working to create the best camouflage yet, which will render a soldier practically invisible to the naked eye.

The uniform would work by bending light around the suit, making the person nearly transparent. This technology is likely to be first used for fighter pilots, who have to parachute into enemy territory when their aircraft is shot down.

Not being able to be seen is probably one of the biggest advantages in military, which is why guerilla tactics made their way into battle.

10. Synthetic Organisms

Headed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, this project plans to create an organism for battle that only dies via kill switch.

The organism will have the abilities of a soldier, while also being able to recover from injuries. Since the soldier will likely be able to survive anything from bullet wounds to blood loss, the military would have to be able to prevent the super soldier from switching sides in combat.

The last thing the military wants is their weapons used against them. To counter this, a “loyalty code” will be implanted into the DNA, and will keep the soldier on the right side of the battle. Nevertheless, technology is a long way away from getting these super soldiers into combat.
